The facility will connect to the grid through NGCP’s 69 kV Naga–Libmanan transmission line. The ERC also approved Megasol Energy 1 Inc.’s 41.244 MW Gamu Solar Power Plant in Isabela. The project will connect to the Luzon grid through the 69 kV Gamu-Roxas line.
At the time, 778 MW of solar had been installed, making it already the largest solar installation in the Philippines. The first phase, which also includes a 500 kV transmission line to the Nagsaag-San Jose connection, is due for completion in 2026.
A transmission line will connect the plant and BESS to the Luzon power grid managed by the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP). The hybrid project will feature a 500kV 13km long transmission line with 89 towers. The infrastructure will use 4-410mm 2 Thermal Resistant Aluminium Alloy Conductors Steel Reinforced (TACSR) per phase.
Image: Meralco PowerGen Corp., Terra Solar Philippines Inc. ERC, the energy regulator of the Philippines, has approved an application from the world’s largest solar-plus-battery project under construction to develop and own its own transmission network.
In July, a project update revealed that 54% of the first phase of works had been completed within eight months of construction, marking progress ahead of schedule. At the time, 778 MW of solar had been installed, making it already the largest solar installation in the Philippines.
Aboitiz Power Corporation, one of the Philippines’ major utilities, has launched a project that reflects this shift toward hybrid infrastructure. The company is constructing a 30-megawatt hybrid Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) in Cebu, in collaboration with East Asia Utilities Corporation.

The global energy storage battery cabinet market is experiencing unprecedented growth, with demand increasing by over 500% in the past three years. Battery cabinet storage solutions now account for approximately 60% of all new commercial and residential solar installations worldwide. North America leads with 48% market share, driven by corporate sustainability goals and federal investment tax credits that reduce total system costs by 35-45%. Europe follows with 40% market share, where standardized cabinet designs have cut installation timelines by 75% compared to traditional solutions. Asia-Pacific represents the fastest-growing region at 60% CAGR, with manufacturing innovations reducing battery cabinet system prices by 30% annually. Emerging markets are adopting cabinet storage for residential energy independence, commercial peak shaving, and emergency backup, with typical payback periods of 2-4 years. Modern cabinet installations now feature integrated systems with 5kWh to multi-megawatt capacity at costs below $400/kWh for complete energy storage solutions.
Technological advancements are dramatically improving solar power generation performance while reducing costs for residential and commercial applications. Next-generation solar panel efficiency has increased from 15% to over 22% in the past decade, while costs have decreased by 85% since 2010. Advanced microinverters and power optimizers now maximize energy harvest from each panel, increasing system output by 25% compared to traditional string inverters. Smart monitoring systems provide real-time performance data and predictive maintenance alerts, reducing operational costs by 40%. Battery storage integration allows solar systems to provide backup power and time-of-use optimization, increasing energy savings by 50-70%. These innovations have improved ROI significantly, with residential solar projects typically achieving payback in 4-7 years and commercial projects in 3-5 years depending on local electricity rates and incentive programs. Recent pricing trends show standard residential systems (5-10kW) starting at $15,000 and commercial systems (50kW-1MW) from $75,000, with flexible financing options including PPAs and solar loans available.
