Qiongzhong Pumped- Storage Power Station is designed to generate 1 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, saving 163,100 tons of standard coal consumption for thermal use in the Hainan power system, reducing about 427,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions, and about 1,400 tons of sulfur dioxide and dust emissions.
"The compressed-air energy storage station offers large capacity, long storage time (over 4 hours), and efficient response, making it comparable to small and medium-sized pumped storage power plants," Liu Yong, Secretary General of Energy Storage Application Branch of China Industrial Association of Power Sources told the Global Times on Wednesday.
Chen Weitong, the Deputy Director of Maintenance Center of Hainan Storage Power Generation Co. Ltd. noted, “The carbon emission generated in the whole process is relatively low, which makes it a better option to achieve the carbon peak and neutrality goals.”
The Changjiang Nuclear Power Plant is expected to help optimize the energy structure and improve the power supply on the island.
